About Lexington KY Metal Gates
We build and service metal gates: driveway and estate gates, ornamental and courtyard gates, farm and ranch gates, automated systems with access control, and the repair and refinishing work that keeps an existing gate swinging clean for another decade. We are Lexington KY Metal Gates, and the short version of what we do differently is that we start with the ground, not the steel.
How We Approach the Work
The footer comes first
Central Kentucky sits on shallow limestone karst under heavy expansive clay. Kentucky's Residential Code sets a 24-inch minimum frost protection depth for Fayette County, and a freestanding gate post is cantilevered, not backfilled like a foundation wall, so we build to 36–48 inches with a bell-shaped base as standard practice, not an upsell.
The code comes before the design
Every one of the communities we serve sits under its own city or county planning office, and several carry HOA or historic-district review on top of the base zoning. We confirm the applicable height limit and jurisdiction before we design a gate, not after.
Automation is a safety system, not a convenience feature
An automated gate needs at least 2 independent entrapment protection devices under UL 325, and no unguarded gap between 4 and 16 inches under ASTM F2200. We treat both as non-negotiable, not optional add-ons priced separately.
We say when a repair beats a replacement
A worn hinge, a failed footer, or a cracked weld can usually be repaired on the existing gate rather than replaced outright. We would rather tell you that plainly, even when the smaller job is the right answer, than sell the bigger one.
